Over the next few years, the Lausitz Science Park will be built in the immediate vicinity of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg on an area of 420 hectares. The business and science park with international appeal will focus on the future-oriented fields of energy transition & decarbonization, health & life sciences, global change & transformation processes and artificial intelligence & sensor technology.
The network initiative “Mining & Generation Technology – Made in Germany” was launched in 2017 by companies along the mining value chain, the Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Brandenburg Economic Development Corporation (WFBB). Its goal is to secure, further develop and raise awareness of the expertise that has grown in Lusatia over decades in the mining and energy industries.
Founded in the Uckermark region, ENERTRAG now has over 1,200 employees across four continents. As an independent energy company, it installs renewable energy systems in the gigawatt range. Its projects range from wind and solar fields to battery controllers, substations, and heat storage facilities to H2 hybrid power plants and green hydrogen.
The Qualification Network for Renewable Energies in Lusatia (QLEE) supports Lusatia in its transformation into a forward-looking region for renewable energies — with training opportunities for businesses, tailor-made workshops for public administration, and information services and exchange formats for civil society.
Hamburger Containerboard — together with Hamburger Recycling and Dunapack Packaging, part of the Austrian Prinzhorn Holding — offers partners across Europe a complete range of high-quality corrugated base papers. Innovative steps in technology and production with a high degree of consideration for ecological processes are important components of its corporate strategy.
Vision Partner
Hy2gen focuses on renewable hydrogen, colloquially referred to as green hydrogen, and products based on it, such as e-methane, e-methanol, e-diesel, e-kerosene and renewable ammonia. To this end, Hy2gen develops, owns and operates production facilities worldwide for their decentralized supply, which do not require the use of fossil raw materials.
The Lausitz Industrial Park, operated by BASF InfraService & Solutions Lausitz GmbH, offers a comprehensive ecosystem of scalable infrastructure, excellent services, and innovative solutions. Its mission is to develop the site in a long-term, future-proof, and sustainable manner — thereby creating the best conditions for the success of the companies located there.
As an energy park developer, the UKA Group plans, builds, operates and sells wind and photovoltaic parks, supplemented by battery storage facilities. It is one of Germany’s leading project developers with a project pipeline of currently 1.6 GW of wind energy (onshore) in its home market alone. In addition to Germany, it is also shaping the sustainable electricity supply in other European countries and America.
Entwicklungsgesellschaft Niederschlesische Oberlausitz mbH (ENO) is the regional economic development agency for the district and a sparring partner for companies, municipalities, and good ideas. Among other things, it provides support in finding investors, marketing and networking across industry and national borders. With its Structural Change Task Force (Tafo), it also supports companies in the decarbonization process.
HMS Bergbau AG is an internationally active, independent trading and distribution company specializing in reliable just-in-time deliveries of raw materials such as coal products, liquid fuels, oil and gas, cement and ores to industrial customers around the world. It is one of the leading raw materials trading companies in Germany with an annual volume turnover of several million tons.
Pro Lausitz e.V. was founded in 2011 as a regionally connected movement that advocates for the interests of many people in Lusatia. Its members come from all generations and social classes, often with close ties to the topics of energy and industry. With the association as their voice, stakeholders in the debate about the region’s transformation are brought together for dialogue.
The Competence Center for Climate Protection in Energy-Intensive Industries (KEI) advises, promotes, and connects energy-intensive industries in Germany on the topic of greenhouse gas reduction. As a think tank, it addresses the upcoming industrial transformation and supports the transition to climate neutrality — while also targeting policymakers, scientists and the general public.
Based in the structurally changing region of Lusatia, the Cluster for Decarbonization of Industry (CDI) supports the transformation process of industry towards climate neutrality as a source of ideas and multiplier. To this end, it mobilizes expertise and synergies as an interdisciplinary network — with partners throughout Germany — to advance solutions at the interface of science, business, politics and administration.
The PtX Lab Lausitz – Practical Laboratory for Power and Raw Materials from Green Hydrogen – is developing the technical foundations for the market ramp-up of environmentally friendly and sustainable production and use of power-to-X (PtX) products based on green hydrogen. The competence center is a knowledge platform, source of inspiration and point of contact for industry and politics, science and the public.
As a member of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) – the largest party in the European Parliament with 40 parties from 26 EU member states – Brandenburg Member of the European Parliament Dr. Christian Ehler is patron of Decarbon Days and chairman of the program board. Like the EPP itself, he advocates a forward-looking approach to European energy supply.
The Energy Innovation Center (EIZ) at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg brings together over 80 scientists from 15 departments with more than 40 partners from industry and research, including 50Hertz, LEAG, Siemens Energy, Rolls-Royce Power Systems, Fraunhofer IEG, regional universities and SMEs. Together, they develop technologies and business models for a climate-neutral energy supply.
The enviaM Group is one of the leading regional infrastructure and energy service providers in eastern Germany. The group of companies supplies around 1.1 million customers with electricity, gas, heat and energy services. The group, which has around 4,300 employees, includes envia Mitteldeutsche Energie AG (enviaM) Chemnitz and other companies in which enviaM holds a stake.
Aviation and energy are the main areas of research at the Cottbus site of the German Aerospace Center (DLR): The Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes is researching decarbonization options for a wide range of industries, while the Institute of Electrified Aviation Propulsion is primarily concerned with the climate-friendly air transport of tomorrow.
Actemium BEA is an electrical and automation engineering and plant construction company with over 100 years of experience, specializing in plants for raw material extraction, processing and energy generation. Its long history of success has resulted in a broad range of services, from planning and support to delivery, installation and commissioning.
Industrial transformation is one of the greatest challenges of our time. The Service Center for Industrial Transformation in the Regions actively supports this change. As a partner for small and medium-sized enterprises, regional industrial initiatives, and companies, particularly in the manufacturing sector, it supports the transition to a sustainable industry and helps to drive forward the transformation in a targeted manner.

The aim of the Spree-Neiße-Bober Euroregion is to promote cross-border cooperation in the district of Spree-Neiße, the independent city of Cottbus and the southern part of the Lubuskie Voivodeship, with a particular focus on strengthening economic ties. To this end, it facilitates and supports German-Polish partnerships and the improvement of administrative cooperation.
Germany Trade & Invest supports the German economy in accessing new markets by providing comprehensive information and implementing measures. At the same time, it encourages companies worldwide to locate in Germany. GTAI also promotes Germany’s locational advantages abroad and supports the internationalization of the economy in regions affected by structural change.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Infrastructures and Geotechnologies IEG conducts research at seven locations in the fields of integrated energy infrastructures, geothermal energy and sector coupling for a successful energy transition. It develops ideas, technologies and strategies for the transformation of energy systems and sees itself as a thought leader for politics, business, regulation and society.
The Center for Hybrid Electric Systems (CHESCO) Cottbus conducts research into alternative drive systems for cross-sector applications. It is starting in the aviation sector and will expand its fields of application to the automotive, rail, and shipping sectors in the future — developing technologies to significantly accelerate the decarbonization of mobility, which is a major source of CO2 emissions.
The BTU Student University offers interested students the opportunity to understand scientific and technical topics and to awaken their desire to discover and explore. In doing so, it promotes the chance to develop their own skills and talents. Together with Sparkasse Niederlausitz and the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg it offers an attractive program.
The Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce is the self-governing body of the South Brandenburg economy. It currently has around 35,000 member companies from industry, trade, hospitality, services and transportation. It represents them in politics and the public sphere, thereby helping to create reasonable conditions for free enterprise.
The Center for Sustainable Transformation offers management services at a time when rule-based logic is of little use. As an agile and alert consultancy with university backing, it develops solutions for business models in need of a reset and strikes the right tone in terms of communication. To this end, it combines consulting and think tank services, realistic goals with tactical skill and decades of experience.
The Brandenburg Economic Development Corporation is the point of contact in the state of Brandenburg for investors, local companies and start-ups, particularly in the technology sector. It offers all economic and employment promotion services in one central location: from support with relocation and expansion, innovation, internationalization and networking to the acquisition and training of skilled workers.
Cottbus is boom town — a city on the move. As the municipal economic development agency, Entwicklungsgesellschaft Cottbus mbH is the central point of contact for companies, investors and start-ups. It does not only assist and supports companies with relocation and expansion projects, but also acts as a link between business, science and administration, creating optimal conditions and promoting technology transfer.

Lusatia is the EU’s first Net Zero Valley, where clean industry is being expanded more quickly, better financed and supported by workforce development. As a privileged region, entire industrial clusters are to be created in Lusatia, primarily based on its “Clean Power Circle” model with technologies in the areas of batteries and storage, hydrogen, power grid and sector coupling.
360° decarbonization: transformation concepts, innovative turbomachinery, decentralized energy systems and smart pyrolysis plants! The pyropower GmbH is revolutionizing the energy and biochar market in a sustainable way. With its pyrolysis combined heat and power plants, it converts biomass into biochar, electricity and heat— providing energy from unused waste sources exactly where it is needed.
“Amazing Lausitz” is the campaign for structural change in Lusatia — a transformation from a mining region to Europe’s model region for climate protection and sustainable growth.
